The three games I ran in the setting each took place in a different part of the world, and it was hard to tell they all were linked together.
Knitting together four campaigns that were supposed to be distinct was an interesting challenge, but I had fun with it. A melting of the Antarctic ice sheets would also inundate London.
And Shanghai. And Buenos Aires. If I were to take some of the consequences, both grounded and fantastical, and apply them worldwide, there could definitely be a great setting.
First, this is a game in The Sprawl. To the contrary, using the structure of The Sprawl to kickstart the writing will give me some great constraints for building from the bottom up and fleshing out the world more deliberately. No, my idea involves not only a at least second game, but a second system.
Now, after either the passage of time or my faulty memory, I want to run it again. GURPS is, in short, a lot of work. Cyberpunk has many problems with character creation and inventory creep, but the core combat and skill mechanics are quite elegant, and the game can be run deftly and quickly. Well, running Apocalypse World taught me a very important thing: use spreadsheets.
A well-designed spreadsheet will make even dumb table-based systems quick and easy, especially when the majority of the game is still pretty tight. So I have, perhaps stupidly, convinced myself I could run Cyberpunk again. I could even run one-shots and the like and keep it all grounded in the same place. I think this whole nutty idea comes from two places. Obsidian Portal is a great tool for campaign and setting planning, and it actually could work even better across games in the same setting.
Playing in the Cyberpunk or Interface Zero playground is fun, but having my own setting is the next level. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account. You really only need the one book though, because you can get all the other careers and talent trees here:. I have some hope that once they have all the main and splat books out they'll put out 1 compiled species book, or the like. Even when you have all the books its a pain to have to leaf through them all to find that one gun you know you saw somewhere.
I used to enjoy reading through the compiled equipment or species books in the old WEG Star Wars game. The more specialized format often let them add more flavorful information. Minor nit pick here.
Each line has a different focus, but they are in fact meant to be playable together. Stuff like species stats are not line specific in the least.
Also each game is not "the same", as someone stated above but you can play them together.
Each book has different "fluff" as well which is enjoyable to read. I am on a quest to gather all the books. Know this will take time, but it's worth it. Buy about 2 books a month, sometimes How many races do we have now? I get about 53 species dang, really!? You know what's a terrible idea? Races, classes, weapons, spells, whatever. That first rodeo, you want to say, "Okay, this is a Force and Destiny game, pick one of these eight races, one of these six careers, and a specialization within the career.
If you have a character idea in mind, I can help you decide. When it's time to build a new character, the number of choices won't be as overwhelming. Pet Peeve -- the word here in most instances is " species ", not "race". Math is a little off. That first rodeo, you want to say, "Okay, this is a Force and Destiny game, pick one of these eight races, one of these six careers, and a specialisation within the career. Every supplement in this entire system offers something for everyone at the table, yet absolutely none are actually required to tell deep and compelling story.
Our group decided early on that a different player would collect each line, this way no matter the future of our group we would each have a great collection to use that fit well together, and there are no double ups.
On the other hand, some of us have been gaming long enough including Star Wars RPGs that we don't need a new game to "ease us into it" like some kind of noibs. We want the species, the ships, the weapons, the planets, all of it -- we're ready and eager for all the choices.
Yes it is a bad move but it is the move most RPG Publishers do. Sounds like you and your group are committed gamers.Mekton is a role-playing game made by Mike Pondsmith of R.
Talsorian Games, the same studio that made Cyberpunk It centers on the conventions of mecha anime and science fiction although it can easily enough be adapted to other genres like police drama or high fantasy. The weapons seem a bit silly but well within the bounds of what you see in your Japanese animes. There's energy weapons, projectile weapons, missiles; just like BattleTech except there's also shields and more melee weapons.
But around the time you hit the Thought Control rules plugging your brain directly into your mech you might start to suspect there's something going on. Then you hit the rules for Lightspeed and Teleportation, where you realize this is not just a real robot game. Then you hit the Transformation and Combiner rules including turning into motorcycles and what the guy in Not-Voltron's left leg does when they're in the big robot form.
This pulls out all of the anime stops.
Hammerspace, merging with your Mekton, super jumping skills, hijacking other Mekton, absorbing and reusing parts from other mechs you just tore off, transforming into buildings, gadgets, guns yes, there are specific rules for building Megatronrules for super-deformed Mektons including the new "Kawaii" and "Kowoi" stats and even for building yourself a moe robot waifu.
So in other words, you can build a robot girl who leaps across the battlefield and turns into a gun to hijack kawaii enemy mechs by holding their pilots at gunpoint, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann style. Yes, you just read that.
As such, it is STRONGLY advised that its GMs clearly define the do's and don'ts, lest you get a batshit crazy game consisting of several mechs that should not exist, alone or in a group. Actually, screw it. Give your players the book, a number of points and let them go to town. Then GM that shit. It will make for the most memorable game of your life.
An Excel sheet on Google Drive which functions with entirely too much horribly put together code to automatically calculate all the things needed to make a Mek for Mekton Zeta plus Technical Manualso you have to do as little work as possible in making a Mek and even less math.
No autism required here! Additionally there is a Mekton Zeta character sheet as well. Supports stats up to It automatically tallies hits, EV, weight and everything. Beast creation is located on pages of the Advanced Technical Manual. Useful for statting out those alien dogs. Also, for those that wish to use an interactive PDF they have been created and compiled on google drive. Another edition of Mekton has been announced and funded on Kickstarter.
